Assalamoalaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu, My family consists of my mother, 1 elder brother and 2 elder sisters Alhamdulillah. My father passed away in 2015. He was a very senior and respected medical doctor in Oman. My elder brother is a medical doctor as well and currently working towards pursuing his specialization. My eldest sister is a Geologist and a housewife. She is married and settled in Oman, and has 2 children. My other elder sister has studied HR and is an Office Manager. She is also married and settled in Oman. I have a very close knit family Alhamdulillah. We belong to India (Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh) originally but since my father received the citizenship of Oman, my sisters and myself became Omani nationals now. We have lived in Oman always. Being a citizen, I’m not looking forward to relocating to any country. My siblings and I did our schooling in the Indian School in Oman. I received my further education in the University of Nottingham, where I did my BSc. Hons. in Computer Science. After graduating, I worked as an Engineer and as a Management Consultant for better career prospects and experience. After Allah and our beloved Prophet (PBUH), my mother is the most important person for me and shall always be inshaAllah. In spite of being married, both my sisters and their husbands maintain the love and connection between our families. One of the main characteristics I’m looking for in my spouse is that she should love and respect my family and maintain this strong family bond by respecting it. This is the key to a happy life ahead in my opinion. I mostly enjoy spending my free time with my family. I do go out with friends but I have a very selective friend group. I prefer to spend time with my family in my off days/weekends. My sisters also make it a point that we all get together at least once in a week. I like travelling once in a while and love trying different cuisines. I dine out in new places every now and then as I enjoy all kinds of food. Other than this, I also spend time researching about my field of work in order to improve my knowledge. My parents have not only given us all excellent academic education, but also trained us well in our deen. Alhamdulillah they never had to force us to do anything when it came to religious matters, rather they preached us so wisely that we have these qualities embedded in our hearts. A good Muslim is someone who has a kind and caring heart and Alhamdulillah we all practice that in our daily lives. Our family belongs to a moderate mind-set when it comes to religion. We don’t practice extreme scenarios and do not expect the same from my spouse. But a very important point here is that we are strictly against Biddah and Dargah. My mother makes it a point that she tells us simple and small stories from Islamic lectures that can influence our lives positively and encourage us to follow our deen in the right manner.
The most important quality I’m looking for in my spouse is that she should be a practicing Muslimah. I am not looking forward to spending my life with a person who prays occasionally, rather I want to be with a person who prays regularly. A practicing Muslimah will not only understand and respect the value of family, she would also be capable of being a good wife and guide her husband in the right direction, and a good mother who can bring up her children with Islamic moral values to the best of her abilities. Other than this, I am expecting my spouse to be well educated and someone who would partner with me in always learning and improving. As I have mentioned above, my family is very important to me. Hence, I would appreciate a person who would also love and respect them in the same way. Marriage is not just about two people getting married, it's about 2 families tying a bond. Just like I expect my spouse to love and respect my family, I would also practice the same for hers inshaAllah.
